Laudato Si’ Challenge Inc. organizes every year an international challenge, called « The Laudato Si’ Challenge ». This year’s edition of the « Laudato Si’ Challenge » addresses the migration crisis, with a focus on refugees in difficulty around the globe. The « Laudato Si’ Challenge » calls on organizations – from every continent and every religious belief – and aims to ameliorate the life of 10 million refugees, excluded from « Our Common Home » within 2020, thanks to businesses that are innovative, ethical and sustainable.
This year’s edition of the Laudato Si’ Challenge brings together an historic collaboration between the Laudato Si’ Challenge Inc. and LITA.co, a crowd-equity online platform for social enterprises. LITA.co has developed, for the Laudato Si’ Challenge, a brand-new grant-platform: private citizens & corporations will be able to make donations online, giving whatever amount they desire to improve the lives of 10 million people forced from their homes.
To participate to the Laudato Si Challenge 2018, the organisations had to be businesses addressing the migration crisis and helping refugees in many different ways. Fifty companies applied online and answered to different questions on their impact on the lives of refugees, their business model, the results they achieved since the beginning of their activity and many others.
A panel of 10 judges selected the enterprises that most effectively and sustainably improve the lives of refugees, migrants and internally-displaced people. Their impact on the lives of refugees was the most important criteria for their selection as the 13 best companies to receive the donations.
The Jury was comprised of 10 recognized ethicists and professional investors. The role of the Jury was to choose the 13 best enterprises that had the best chance of sustainably improve the lives of 10 million migrants, refugees and internally-displaced people by 2020, in the most innovative, empowering and ethical way.
In the selection process the Jury asked many questions about the following criteria: 1. Market traction. How is the product or service received by the market, if they achieved “product-market ft,” and if so, how do they measure that. 2. Business model. The sustainable business model of the enterprise, to understand how they can scale their impact over time. 3. Team. We asked if the team was uniquely qualified to solve the problem, if they had proven track records of success. 4. Differentiation. What makes their product/service different and better from others. 5. Milestones. We asked what milestones the enterprise achieved so far, and what are their goals going forward. 6. Durability of the company.
Everyone can donate online, from a minimum of 10 euros.

You do not have to choose one of the projects, you can donate to all of them! Your donation will support every company of the Laudato Si Challenge 2018. The Laudato Si Challenge Foundation will then share the collected funds equally among the 13 companies at the end of the donation campaign.
It will last from the 15 November to the 31 January 2019.

The funds received by Laudato Si’ Challenge Inc. shall be allocated between the winners up to one thirteenth (1/13) each. However, Laudato Si’ Challenge Inc. will support fees which will impact the available amount to be really given within the Challenge. The Fees have already been estimated and in no circumstances will go beyond the estimation. All the remaining amount of funds, fees deducted, will be given to the 13 companies, in equal parts.
The winners are entrusted to use the funds as they see fit. These are entrepreneurs who have already achieved impressive levels of success. We trust that they will use the funds in the most impactful manner possible. However, they will be required to report milestones to The Laudato si’ Challenge and we will provide them with as much support as possible as they scale their bold innovations addressing the crisis of forced displacement. Every donor will be able to get informations upon the results achieved by the companies on this website, in the following months and years.
In general, US donors can claim an income tax deduction on their federal income tax returns for any gifts made to qualifying charities described in section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. During the payment procedure you wil be able to choose your country of tax residence and to the residence State. If you are a US donor, after the donation, we will send you by e-mail a charitable deduction receipt.
In case you agree to share your e-mail address and your personal data with Laudato Si Challenge Inc, these data will be used by the LSC Inc. Group in order to inform you, for following-up the project and enterprises financed in the context of the Laudato Si' Challenge and for advertising purposes, about new challenges driven by that group to which the right of using this website belongs.
